In California, a litter of puppies was cruelly left behind by an irresponsible breeder, urgently needing rescue and care.
One of these puppies was a tiny three-day-old pup, barely clinging to life.
Upon receiving the distressing call, a concerned woman realized she needed to act quickly. The entire litter was in dire straits, but one tiny puppy, later named Lucky, was in the most critical condition of all.
Clanay Reza, a dedicated animal enthusiast and independent rescuer, immediately set out to save the puppies. Upon arrival, she found them huddled under their deceased mother.
Among them, Lucky stood out as the tiniest, resembling a baby hamster and barely holding on. Although given minimal chances of survival, Clanay was determined not to lose him. She tirelessly fed him every twenty minutes, ensuring he remained alive, keeping a vigilant, sleepless watch over him.
“I never knew if tomorrow was promised for him,” Clanay wrote on Instagram, reflecting on the exhausting first few weeks of caring for Lucky.
Regrettably, the rest of Lucky’s siblings did not survive, making him the sole survivor of his litter.
While Lucky’s immediate danger has passed, his journey is far from over. As he began to gain strength, he developed a yeast infection and a corneal ulcer, necessitating the removal of an eye.
At just ten weeks old, Lucky was further diagnosed with albinism, attributed to inbreeding.
“He’s had a rollercoaster of a life his first year, but I am thankful for all the bumps in the road,” Clanay noted. “They just made my love for him grow stronger.”
Now at eight years old, Lucky thrives and enjoys a fulfilling life.
Despite his rocky beginning, Lucky has blossomed into a fluffy, playful, and affectionate member of the family. Due to his condition, Reza equips him with special UV-protected goggles to shield him from the sun, reducing his risk of skin cancer. He embraces them and looks quite comical wearing them!
His remarkable resilience has transformed him into a confident and friendly dog, especially partial to children. Recently, he welcomed a new baby sister into the family, and delights in being her steadfast companion, often napping alongside her.
Lucky truly lives up to his name, enjoying a life filled with love and happiness.
