A heartwarming rescue story unfolded when a cat named Zayda stunned rescuers by not only surprising them with a second kitten of her own but also by adopting two orphaned kittens in need.
Sara Sharp, who runs Community Cat Club, recently received a call for help concerning a newborn kitten whose mother wasn’t providing care.
Sara quickly offered to assist by taking in the kitten and helping the mother cat if she was unable to nurse her baby. To her surprise, when the family surrendered them, she discovered the mother was a rare Sphynx cat named Zayda.
Sara told Love Meow, “We don’t see that too often.” As soon as Zayda and her kitten were brought home, it was clear that Zayda adored her baby, even though she was not producing milk.
The next day, a vet visit revealed an unexpected twist—Zayda was still pregnant and needed an emergency C-section. Successfully coming through the surgery, Zayda united with her two kittens, Xana and Zia, in a safe, warm environment.
Despite her inability to provide milk, Zayda lavished attention on her kittens. Sara assisted by bottle-feeding them, while Zayda handled all their other needs.
“I bottle-fed both kittens the whole time while she took care of everything else,” Sara explained to Love Meow. During feedings, Zayda would often join Sara, keeping a close eye on her babies.
As the kittens opened their eyes within a week, they were thriving under Zayda’s watchful eye. Meanwhile, two orphaned kittens arrived at the rescue, requiring constant attention.
After brief isolation to ensure their health, Zayda was introduced to Hermes and Hera, the new kittens.
Without missing a beat, Zayda welcomed the newcomers by sneaking into their nursery and quickly began caring for them.
“She pretty much made me give them to her,” Sara remarked. The expanded family formed a tight-knit group, with Zayda enveloping all four kittens in her love.
The kittens soon reached various developmental milestones, learning to walk, play, and explore, much to Zayda’s delight.
With her babies growing and gaining independence, Zayda found moments to herself, often hanging out with another foster cat, Lupin, and enjoying human companionship.
Zayda’s nurturing nature shone as she seamlessly bonded with two additional kittens alongside her own, demonstrating the incredible capacity for maternal love—a story of resilience and warmth that is bound to inspire many.
