A cat named Slick is on the mend after a harrowing ordeal in Idaho Falls, where he was discovered covered in motor oil and abandoned.
Thanks to the quick actions of the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter and local veterinarians, the seven-year-old orange tabby is now receiving the care he desperately needs.
Slick’s distressing situation came to light when animal control officers were called to collect the mistreated cat over the weekend.

According to a statement from the shelter on Facebook, “Slick was cruelly doused in motor oil before he ended up in our care.”
The moment Slick arrived at the Northgate Veterinary Clinic, vets quickly sedated him to shave and bathe his oil-coated fur.
The shelter noted that Slick had been attempting to clean himself by licking his fur, unintentionally ingesting a significant amount of motor oil. This posed a serious risk to his health, especially his kidneys.

To combat the harmful effects of the oil, Slick was administered IV fluids to help flush it from his system. Remarkably, the community rallied in support, providing ample donations to cover all of Slick’s medical expenses, according to shelter officials.
With the worst seemingly behind him, Slick is on track to make a full recovery and is expected to be available for adoption soon.
Authorities are actively searching for the individual responsible for this act of cruelty. Idaho Falls Animal Services Manager, Irene Brown, revealed to EastIdahoNews.com, “We have a few ideas of who might have done this to the cat.

We want to charge whoever was responsible for this cruel act, but need witnesses to come forward.”
Brown emphasized that there are proper channels to handle unwanted pets, urging the public to enlist animal control services instead of resorting to harmful actions.
“There is no reason anyone should have done this,” Brown stated. “No matter the circumstances, we’re here to help and could have picked up the animal. It’s unfortunate that someone chose to vent their anger on Slick.”
