A touching reunion unfolded when a puppy named “Puppy” was found 40 hours after he went missing, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated Search and Rescue dog and a team of rescuers. This heartwarming incident took place in McCleary, Washington, and involved a 150-pound Great Pyrenees who vanished while his owner, Karen James, was horseback riding.
After two days of anxious searching, Karen sought help from Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue. The organization called in Tino, a newly trained Search and Rescue dog, to aid in the mission. Tino successfully tracked down Puppy, who was trapped in a muddy ravine less than a mile from Tino’s home. The only part visible in the mud was Puppy’s head, making the situation quite dire.
To bring Puppy to safety, three rescuers worked diligently to free him from the muck. The organization praised Tino’s efforts on Facebook, stating, “Tino did a terrific job today, finding this old dog stranded in the muck.” Puppy was likely stuck in the cold mud for several hours, with his legs temporarily immobilized, until Tino’s intervention.
The dense forest around the search area could have hindered the family’s efforts, highlighting the importance of Tino’s role. Karen shared with Fox 13 that without Tino’s help, finding Puppy amidst the vast wilderness would have been nearly impossible. “He couldn’t get out of the muck,” she explained, emphasizing how far off the path Puppy had wandered.
This marked Tino’s first “Walk up find” after 16 months of training with Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue, and the mission was a grand success. Puppy was joyfully reunited with his family and transported home in a wagon, marking a happy ending to their ordeal.
