In response to a report about a moving trash bag, animal control officers discovered a young puppy inside. The poor creature was in critical condition, covered in blood and crawling with fleas.
The puppy, later named Thor, was found with severe injuries including a dislocated right eye and numerous puncture wounds. Despite wearing a collar, it was evident he had been abandoned and likely attacked.

Officers quickly transported him to Animal Kingdom Pet Hospital. Veterinarians there worked hard to stabilize him and ultimately decided that removing his badly damaged eye was the best course of action. “We weren’t sure if he would survive the surgery,” said Kristin Smith, a veterinary technician at the clinic. However, Thor’s resilience shone through as he successfully pulled through the operation, impressing everyone involved.
Touched by Thor’s strength, Smith decided to foster him while the local Bayou Animal Services offered to cover his medical expenses. Shelters in the area were dealing with an overwhelming number of pet surrenders, so the support was well appreciated.

In the nurturing environment of his foster home, Thor began to heal, and his affectionate nature became evident. He follows Smith around the house, always eager to snuggle up in her lap or find a cozy spot in a warm blanket. “He’s incredibly affectionate,” Smith noted. “All he desires is to be close and feel loved.”
Thor is now on the road to recovery. He has adapted quickly to life without one eye and doesn’t seem to be hindered by it. His treatment for parasites continues, and soon he’ll complete his vaccinations.

By early next year, Thor will be ready for adoption. Until then, he enjoys his days wrapped in soft blankets, comforted by the person who gave him a second chance, and resting peacefully without any more fears in the world.
