Late at night, a call came in reporting the abandonment of 18 dogs in an old house on the edge of town. Among them was a beleaguered mother dog with her newborn puppies.
It was heart-wrenching to find them in such a predicament, especially as threatening weather loomed.
Despite being exhausted and anxious, the mother dog did all she could to protect her puppies, constantly moving them to keep them safe.

Sadly, she became ill, and her puppies started to weaken. Six of them did not make it, leaving the mother in a dire state, barely able to stand.
We quickly took her to the hospital. There, the mother dog, whom we named Serena, was diagnosed with dehydration, anemia, and tested positive for Ehrlichia. Her condition was severe and demanded at least three days of intensive care.
Even in her suffering, Serena put her pups’ needs first, demonstrating the profound love and sacrifice of a mother.

Watching Serena fight for survival alongside her eleven remaining puppies was a rollercoaster of emotions: sadness, fear, and a faint, yet persistent, hope. We worked relentlessly to provide them with the care they desperately needed.
Enduring sleepless nights was challenging, but witnessing Serena and her puppies grow stronger day by day was incredibly rewarding. We gave them extra support and encouragement, knowing the path to recovery would be long and arduous.

As days went by, Serena and her pups began to thrive, becoming healthier and happier. Their strength and tenacity inspired us to push forward in our mission to rescue and care for animals in distress.
Despite the difficulties, our journey with Serena and her pups strengthened our resolve to continue making a positive impact in their lives.
