Morocho: The Heroic Dogo Who Saved Two Young Girls from a Puma
In a remarkable tale of bravery, a dog’s courageous act to protect two young girls from a puma has captured the hearts of many around the world.
Ulises, the grandson of Dr. Nores Martines who created the Dogo Argentino breed, took a trip to La Cocha with his 10-year-old daughter Sofia a few months ago to run some errands, intending to return the same day. The journey was smooth, and once they arrived at the ranch, Ulises began working with Tomás, the foreman. Meanwhile, Sofia and Yoli, the daughter of Tomás, sought permission to gather figs from a giant fig tree located about 700 yards from the main house.
As the juiciest figs are often found at the top, Yoli climbed as high as she could. However, she wasn’t alone in the tree. When Yoli was about seven feet up, she heard noises and spotted a puma—a mountain lion—hidden among the branches.
Suddenly, the large puma leaped from the upper branches, striking Yoli with one of its paws and causing her to fall to the ground, landing flat on her back.
Morocho, one of Ulises’ best Dogo Argentino dogs, was trailing after the girls, as he often did on the ranch. When Tomas, the girls’ father, heard their screams, he rushed to them with all his might, fearing it might be a snake. But what he discovered was Morocho bravely confronting the puma, putting his life on the line to save these children.
Despite sustaining severe injuries, Morocho survived, and the puma eventually retreated. Thanks to his valor, Sofia and Yoli remained unharmed. Morocho’s incredible courage has since left millions across the globe admiring this loyal and fearless dog.
