Elliot and Nathanial Green’s visit to the Lynchburg Humane Society turned out to be a life-changing experience, not just for them but also for a special kitten named Merlin.
Initially, the Greens had their hearts set on adopting a Siamese kitten, yet fate had other plans.

During their visit, all Siamese options were exhausted—either on hold or already adopted. However, the shelter staff had a different suggestion, introducing them to Merlin, a small, mostly blind kitten in need of a home.
Recalling his first encounter, Elliot shared with Love Meow, “The lady helping us thought Merlin would be the perfect fit.”
Despite his blindness, Merlin’s charm was undeniable. According to Elliot, the tiny kitten won them over immediately.
“He greeted me with a few sniffs and nestled right into my arms, starting to purr,” Elliot recounted, “It was clear he was the perfect one for us.”
After completing the adoption paperwork, Merlin swiftly adapted to his new home. Using his keen senses of touch, smell, and hearing, he quickly familiarized himself with his surroundings.
Elliot marveled at Merlin’s adaptability, noting, “He has never had a problem with his surroundings. He senses everything with his paw before moving forward, and once he’s been in a room, he remembers it all.”
Merlin, affectionately referred to as a “parrot kitty” for his habit of snuggling close, is incredibly laid-back and relishes every bit of attention he receives.
His love for cuddling is matched only by his passion for food. “He’s the most relaxed cat I’ve ever met,” Elliot said, “He loves cuddles and being acknowledged.”
This blind but spirited kitty enjoys walks, meeting new people, and is not hindered by his lack of sight. He continues to play, jump, and explore like any other cat, using his other senses to navigate his world.
“Being blind doesn’t slow him down,” Elliot emphasized.
Merlin has truly found his forever home and continues to grow in feline wisdom every day. As he prepares to turn two this April, he has proven to be not just a unique pet, but a loving companion who sees the world in his own special way.
