Murphy’s Rescue
This is the story of Murphy, a bear cub who faced a bleak future but now thrives in his new sanctuary.
Rescued at just six weeks old by the dedicated team at Animals Asia Sanctuary, Murphy’s life took a positive turn.
The Smuggling Attempt
Murphy’s mother was killed by a poacher intending to sell the cub to a wealthy buyer. The plan was to smuggle Murphy across the Vietnam-China border in a backpack, likely to end up in a bear bile farm where bears are confined in small cages and their bile harvested for use in traditional medicine. Many governments condemn this cruel practice.
A Close Call
Acting on a tip, authorities intercepted the smuggler at customs before he could escape with Murphy. The poacher was arrested, and Murphy became one of the youngest residents at the sanctuary.
A New Beginning
Murphy was so young that he hadn’t even learned to walk when he first arrived. But under the care of the sanctuary, he soon learned to walk and explore his new environment with curiosity.
The Playground
At three months old, Murphy was introduced to his playground. This space is designed to help him develop essential survival skills in preparation for his eventual release back into the wild. His playful antics in the playground have been a source of delight for many.
