In Corpus Christi, Texas, a heartwarming rescue story emerged after a cat was found abandoned outside an apartment complex. The feline, seeking comfort, lay on a gray cat bed wrapped under a towel.
The first person to discover the situation was Kayla, an employee at the apartment’s leasing office and a passionate animal lover.
Feeling compelled to help, she went to see what could be done. Upon her arrival, she noticed a note taped above the mailboxes that simply read, “Please help us.”
The message, though short, conveyed a sense of urgent need. As Kayla approached, she realized the cat was not just resting—she was in the middle of giving birth.
Beneath the towel, three tiny kittens were already snuggled close to their mother, with a fourth soon to arrive.
Understanding the need for immediate action, Kayla drew on her experience volunteering with Coastal Bend Cat Rescue to assist the mother cat in delivering her last kitten. She then moved the entire family into her office for safety.
With her mother’s assistance, Kayla reached out to her rescue organization, which quickly arranged for the cat family to be taken into a foster home.
The rescue organization shared their thoughts on Facebook, expressing disbelief at the cat’s previous suffering, “We don’t know why humans did this to her.
It was cruel and unfair, and we are at a loss for words… But we are focusing on the positive because she is safe now and she will never have to endure a traumatic experience like this again.”
The mother cat was affectionately named BonBon, and her kittens were given the candy-themed names Reeses, Hershey, Dove, and Butterfinger.
Updates on Facebook highlighted their progress and improvement, with the kittens growing stronger and more playful as their mother lovingly cared for them.
BonBon’s affectionate purrs and gentle kneading showed her gratitude, and the rescue shared, “BonBon has been an amazing mama cat to her little ones and they are all thriving in foster care.
The babies are starting to play and wrestle with each other… Mama BonBon is providing enough sweet treats to keep everyone growing and healthy!”
Once the kittens were strong and healthy and BonBon recovered, the rescue transferred them to a local shelter dedicated to finding permanent homes for their animals.
Although their abandonment remains a mystery, the future for BonBon and her kittens looks bright and hopeful.
