One year ago, a young woman from Pokrovskoye, Ukraine, reached out on Facebook with a desperate plea. She reported that a neighbor had abandoned their home, leaving behind two dogs chained up and alone.
Her message to a local animal shelter sparked confusion at first, with some dismissing her claims about a foul smell wafting from the property.
Frustrated, she eventually took the post down, but not before it caught the attention of rescuers determined to help.
With little to go on – no address or contact details – the shelter team relied on the girl’s blurry photos of the dogs. After a three-hour journey, asking locals for directions along the way, they finally found the house. Breaking through the locked door, they were hit by a stomach-churning stench.
Inside, the scene was devastating: one dog had already succumbed to hunger and neglect. The other, a Labrador reduced to skin and bones, whimpered faintly, too weak to even lift his head. His eyes, brimming with tears, told a story of abandonment and longing for an owner who would never come back.
The team named the surviving pup “Boss” and rushed him to a vet. Starving and frail, he needed urgent care, including a blood transfusion.
