The bear was young, weighing around 250 pounds, and was hungry. It entered the house through the open door and started rummaging through the kitchen cupboards, looking for food.

The Rogers heard the commotion and tried to scare the bear away by shouting, but it only agitated the bear.
Fearing for their safety, they ran upstairs and locked themselves in a room, waiting for authorities to arrive.

While the couple was trapped upstairs, the bear helped itself to the cat food, some prunes, and anything else it could find. Fortunately, the bear was not aggressive toward them—it just wanted a meal.
Wildlife experts say that as human development encroaches on bear habitats, bears increasingly find their way into residential areas, looking for food in trash cans, garages, and even homes.
The Rogers’ experience is not unique. There have been other reports of bears entering homes, often drawn by the scent of food. Authorities typically respond by capturing and relocating the bears to areas better suited for them.
Despite these measures, it’s a reminder that people living in bear country should take precautions to avoid attracting these large and hungry visitors.
