At the wildlife center, August is the season when bears start to shed their fur, leading to thick clumps and tangles.
To help them out, caregivers step in with brushes and a gentle touch. Susan, a dedicated worker at the center, approaches Maddy, a large and vocal bear with a brush in hand. Maddy is nearly twice Susan’s size but is overjoyed to see her friend.

Maddy’s enthusiasm is palpable; she greets Susan with howls and yelps of delight, her body relaxed on the warm grass under the midday sun.

As Susan begins brushing, Maddy’s relaxation deepens. Susan meticulously works through every nook and cranny, brushing away the loose fur while also giving Maddy some firm pats and scratches.
The brushing is so enjoyable for Maddy that she can’t help but twitch her leg. After a few minutes, she rolls onto her back, presenting her belly for more brushing.

This allows Susan to work on Maddy’s underside, and she takes the opportunity to give her some playful attention to keep the mood light and enjoyable.
Susan finishes by brushing around Maddy’s soft paw pads, being careful not to hurt her. Before leaving, she gives Maddy’s paws a gentle tap, a sign of affection for the sweet bear who loved her brushing session.
