Holly, an animal rescuer working in Hawaii, was stunned when she first encountered Halo. The dog had been tied up for years, living in a dire situation without any relief. Learning that Halo had endured this harsh condition for a long five years ignited Holly and her team’s determination to rescue him. The moment Halo was finally freed was a significant relief for everyone involved. Holly recounted to The Dodo how, when they were about to leave the property, Halo marked his departure by urinating on the door, as if to say a final goodbye to his old life.
Once Halo was safely in the car, his initial reaction was one of bewilderment and anxiety, as he was experiencing freedom for the very first time. Upon bringing him home, Holly noticed that he was still quite uneasy and unsure of how to handle his new environment. She understood that it would take time for Halo to unwind and get comfortable before he could be introduced to foster care.
After a few days of settling in, Holly introduced Halo to her other dogs. One particular dog named Bonzai took a liking to Halo and helped him learn how to enjoy life as a “real dog.” The two quickly became inseparable, playing together and forming a strong bond that delighted Holly.
Over time, it became clear to Holly that Halo had found his forever home with her. She fondly admitted, “And then of course, as I always do, I got attached. I’m a terrible foster failure.”
