Recently in Chino Hills, California, a distressing discovery highlighted both the cruelty and compassion present in animal welfare. A woman named Stephanie Castillo stumbled upon a small cage outside of a rescue organization, crammed with seven abandoned dogs in distressing conditions. Shocked by what she saw, Stephanie felt compelled to take immediate action to help these vulnerable animals.
With no prior experience in handling such situations and unsure of what steps to take, Stephanie instinctively reached out to the nearby Priceless Pet Rescue. Unfortunately, the rescue was closed for the day, so she couldn’t seek immediate assistance from them. Despite this setback, she couldn’t walk away knowing the dogs were suffering.

“The dogs appeared to have been there for some time, trapped in a cage with no relief and a blind, elderly dog in particularly poor condition,” Stephanie recounted to The Dodo. Faced with a dire situation and unable to wait for the local humane society to arrive hours later, Stephanie made the brave decision to take the dogs home with her.
Once they arrived at her house, Stephanie released the pups from their small confines, saddened by the state they were in. Nevertheless, after a hearty meal and a brief stroll, the dogs began to show signs of recovery. Later, the humane society came to collect them and transported them to Priceless Pet Rescue’s Costa Mesa facility.

Although these dogs still faced significant recovery, Stephanie felt grateful that they now had a chance for a brighter future. They were given names—Hal, Reese, Dewey, Francis, Malcolm, Lois, and Rudy—and the rescue team worked tirelessly to find them loving homes. Thanks to swift outreach on social media, four of the dogs were soon adopted, leaving just three awaiting their new families.
For those looking to offer a caring home in Southern California, these remaining dogs are available for adoption at Priceless Pets in Costa Mesa and are deserving of the love and care that Stephanie and the rescue staff have helped them find. Their journey to recovery is a testament to the impact a compassionate heart can have.
