When rescuers heard about two dogs left alone next to active train tracks, they knew they had to act quickly.
For an entire week, these dogs stayed in the dangerous location as if waiting for an owner who would never return for them. The animals’ unwavering loyalty was both touching and concerning given the circumstances.
Suzette Hall, who leads Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, hurried to where the dogs had been reported. What she found was alarming: two Poodle mixes showing signs of neglect, most likely abandoned after being used for breeding.
Despite the constant hazards of the noisy industrial site, the dogs remained steadfast in their waiting.
“They would just sit there,” Suzette recalled, highlighting how abandoned dogs often cling to the hope that the ones who left them might come back. Their loyalty, while heartbreaking, is a common response in such situations.
Rescuing the dogs was far from easy. The risky setting made both animals restless and fearful—they would scurry under buses or run along the tracks every time someone approached, complicating the rescue efforts.
Determined not to give up, Suzette and a team of volunteers spent many hours working to gain the dogs’ trust. Their patience finally paid off when the rescue traps securely closed, ensuring the dogs were safe at last.
Suzette named the dogs Major and Divine, thinking that the pair was inseparable based on their experience beside the tracks. However, at the veterinary clinic, it was clear they paid little attention to one another, showing no desire to stick together.
Suzette noted that in dangerous situations, dogs often band together out of necessity, forming bonds for survival. Once out of harm’s way, they might prefer their own space, similar to siblings who tolerate each other only when needed.
Whether Major and Divine stayed together didn’t change the good news of their future. Both dogs embarked on the path to recovery and soon found loving families to adopt them.
Each was welcomed warmly into a home that included another dog as a new companion.
After weeks filled with danger and anxiety, Major and Divine were finally able to settle into secure and happy lives, surrounded by love and companionship.
