In the town of Delray Beach, Florida, early this year, Carmen Weinberg, the founder of the Animal Friends Project, was alerted about a stray kitten that had wandered into a woman’s yard in dire condition, repeatedly crying out for assistance.
Without hesitation, Carmen rushed to rescue the kitten. Upon her arrival, she found this frail little creature sitting in the yard.
The kitten’s ginger fur was almost entirely obscured by dirt, and he suffered from a severe case of mange, a skin condition. His ears and fur were encrusted with a hard shell, and his eyes were crusted shut.
As Carmen approached, he slowly moved toward her, letting out a cry of pain.
“He was crying loudly for someone to notice him and help him,” Carmen shared with Love Meow.
Carmen offered him some food, which he immediately started eating. To safely transport him, Carmen used a plate of food to lure him into a carrier with ease. With that, the journey of his recovery began.
Over the next few days, the kitten’s condition started to improve. As the hard crust on his coat began to shed, revealing his beautiful orange fur underneath, Carmen fittingly named him Simba.
“I applied coconut oil on his ears and head to soften the crust, then used a flea comb to brush it off,” Carmen explained.
Soon, Simba was ready for a visit to the vet for further treatment and vaccinations. Thanks to Carmen’s diligent care, Simba was on his path to becoming a healthy and cheerful kitten.
After consistent treatment and a warm bath, Simba eventually opened his eyes to the world, marking a new beginning. Now a robust new tabby, each passing day saw Simba growing stronger.
He gained healthy weight, his energy surged, and best of all, he was free from the grip of mange.
Simba’s hardships were behind him, and he was set to embark on a new chapter. From wandering the streets alone, unable to see, this courageous kitten fought hard and emerged victorious.
Simba has grown into a majestic and healthy cat with a stunning orange coat. Carmen noted, “Simba has been with us for six months now. He loves being touched and rolls on his back so we can pet his tummy.”
When all hope seemed lost for Simba, Carmen stepped in to offer this adorable tabby a chance at a better life, and he embraced it wholeheartedly. Simba couldn’t be sweeter if he tried, and his gratitude is evident.
